Faces of FIUTS: Michelle Wu

Faces of FIUTS is a social media campaign that collects personal stories from individuals who are part of our work. During July and August, we will be introducing the 2020-2021 FIUTS Student Board. This week, meet Michelle Wu, Secretary and Outreach Co-Chair!

Where are you from?
Growing up, I often moved between China and America so I didn't have a physical home--my true home was my friends and family. Because of this, I consider where I'm from to be very eclectic and mobile. Particularly, I find different kinds of fruit to be very comforting, like lychee and fragrant rose grapes.

What's your FIUTS story?
I am fairly new to the FIUTS community! I was kind of nervous at first, but every event I've attended so far (shoutout to game night) has been incredibly welcoming. Next year, I'll be serving as Secretary and Outreach Co-chair--I am beyond excited to meet you all!

How will you change the world?
Right now, there's so much more room for understanding, compassion, and empathy in the world--especially towards marginalized communities. However, I also believe that the best leaders are those who are also capable listeners. So currently, I want to change the world by creating safe spaces for those who need it. I truly believe that empathy is the key to effective change.
