From FIUTS earliest days, connecting UW international students with the community through interactive educational programs has been central to our mission. FIUTS Education Outreach programs bring the world to your doorstep, providing resources and expertise in cultural exchange.
For K-12 teachers in the Seattle area we offer Cultural Fest and the Pen Pal and Classroom Visit programs to enrich your classroom. In this global age, infusing the K-12 curricula with international
topics is fundamental to our educational planning. For Senior Centers we offer the Elder Visit program.
The Classroom Visit program brings UW international or returned study-abroad students into K-12 classrooms as invited guests. The students give interactive presentations about culture or global issues.
Designed for students in grades 4-6, the Pen Pal program involves the exchange of emails with a UW international student over a period of weeks and culminates in meeting for lunch.
CulturalFest is an annual event produced by the FIUTS Student Board. It consists of a 1) virtual journey around the world through various country booths where UW international students display pictures, crafts, native dress, music, maps, and answer questions to better educate the community about the world around them; and 2) cultural performances of music, dance, and art.
The Elder Visit program is a new program designed for the Fall of 2007. Local senior living centers have invited UW students to visit and share their home culture or travel experience abroad.
The FIUTS International Film Series seeks to spread cultural understanding through the beatiful and vivid media of film. Every academic quarter FIUTS shows two films from around the world.
