Programs for UW Departments

FIUTS offers orientations, membership and social programs to students at the University of Washington. UW Departments interested in involving international students and scholars in FIUTS programs can choose from the following options.  Fees for each program are listed (all fees subject to change).

International Student Orientation

For incoming students in Fall quarter, FIUTS offers a 14-day orientation program that includes opening day, several free social events, and more then 30 sessions designed to introduce students to the University of Washington and to the Pacific Northwest.  For other quarters, FIUTS offers a similar orientation but on a smaller scale.
Fee: $65 per student
Note: The International Student Orientation fee is charged to all matriculated students regardless of actual participation.

International Student Orientation: Camp

As a part of Orientation, students may attend an overnight camp. Cost includes lodging, transportation, hiking, meals, and social and intercultural activities. (only offered Fall Quarter)
Fee: $20 per student

International Student Orientation: Rotary Cruise

As a part of Orientation, students may attend a three-hour cruise on Elliot Bay, put on by Seattle-area Rotarians. Cost includes meal. (only offered Fall Quarter)
Fee: $10 per student

Homestay

The FIUTS Homestay Program pairs incoming international students with volunteer families in the Seattle area, who welcome the student to stay for a week in their home and help them get settled in at the University. This is a great opportunity for students to gain a “Seattle family” and also share their home culture. 
Fee: 75$ per student
Note: beginning in Fall quarter of 08 the fee will be $100

Friendship Connection

The FIUTS Friendship Connection Program is similar to the Homestay program, but without the week-long stay in the hosts home.
Fee: $35 per matriculated student

Departmental Memberships

As a FIUTS member, students receive priority registration and discounts on the costs of FIUTS Events & Activities. Membership is valid for one academic year.
Fee: $20 for indivuals, $25 to include a student’s family members

FIUTS Presentations, Campus Tours, and Custom Programs

FIUTS Staff or Student Board members can speak to your group on a variety of topics (ie. culture shock, getting involved in the community), provide UW campus tours, or develop other custom programs which fit your needs.
Fee: Based on size and type of event
