I-94: What is this form and where do I get it?
The I-94 is an immigration document you will receive on
the plane. You will fill out the card when you receive
it
and hand
it
to an immigration officer when you land. The officer will
give you the bottom portion (and hopefully staple it in
your passport). You must keep that card and bring it with
you when you check in with the ISS.
ARRIVAL: What should I do when I arrive on campus?
If you are beginning your studies in Autumn, during the month of September you should come to the FIUTS office or the Greeting Table to sign-up for an ISS check-in session. For the other quarters be sure to check in with the ISS Office on the 4th floor
of Schmitz Hall. They will check you in, give you some
information about immigration and remove the hold on your
student account so you can register. For other things
to do, check the New International Student Checklist.
ORIENTATION FEE: Do I have to pay it?
All students must pay the orientation fee whether or not
they attend. Orientation benefits all new international
students and we encourage students to attend since
they must pay the fee.
The fee
was mandated by the UW Board of Regents and cannot be waived.
What do I get with my Orientation Fee?
Your orientation fee includes your welcome packet, orientation programming which includes informational sessions and social activities in the evenings and on weekends.
HOUSING: I need to find a place to live. Where do I go?
There are several places to check for housing:
•
Ads in the classified section of The
Daily, the UW campus
newspaper
•
Postings in the FIUTS Office
• ASUW & GPSS Housing
•
Walk around! Check for signs outside of buildings and houses.
As crazy as this sounds, this is honestly one of the best
ways!
On average, it takes 4-5 days for students to find a place
to live.
For more info on Housing, check the housing page as well as check your International Student
Handbook.
EMPLOYMENT
International students can only work on campus. The link
to student employment is:

Please contact International
Services Office for questions
on employment.
*** The questions below apply to Fall Orientation
ONLY***
If you are coming in Winter, Spring or Summer, these do
not apply.
Which Activities Cost Extra?
Camp ($40, which includes transportation, 3 meals, lodging and event programming), Games Night ($6), Dim Sum and Shopping Trip
($20), the Boat Cruise ($25, which includes lunch), Space Needle and Dinner Out ($30).
Are Meals Included with the Orientation?
Breakfast and lunch are provided by FIUTS on
Opening Day. If you sign up for camp, the
fee includes 3 meals, Space Needle and Dinner Out includes dinner, Dim Sum and Shopping includes breakfast and the Rotary Boat Cruise ticket
includes lunch.
Because of the various dietary restrictions of several
international populations, we ask that you bring your own
food to grill at the barbeques. If you don’t want
to eat, you are still welcome to come and join in on the
fun and meet new people. We provide condiments like mustard
and ketchup as well as all the supplies.
Late Arrival
It's no problem to arrive a little later than others and
miss a few days of orientation. This often happens and
we understand that not everyone can make it for Opening Day, the kick off of the FIUTS International Student Orientation Program. Just jump in when
you arrive and go to the social activities, sessions and
anything else that you want to do!
Early Activity Sign up
Sign ups for activities will open at the Greeting Table
on September 8. You will also be able to sign up for orientation activities on Opening Day, September 11. The Greeting
Table is open
from
September 8-10, 12 and the 15-19 from 10am-1pm, on the main floor of the HUB.
Do I need to check in at the Greeting Table?
Yes, you do need to check in at the Greeting Table. Stop by the Greeting Table to get the orientation program, receive
a Welcome Packet, sign up for a ISS check-in session and meet other students. Signing up for an ISS check-in session is important because until you have attended this session, you
will have a hold on your registration. When you check in
with ISS, they will lift that hold and you will be able
to register.
Do I have to attend the entire 2 weeks of Orientation?
Orientation is designed for you to attend the sessions and social activities that
you find interesting and useful. While we encourage students
to participate in the entire program, we understand that
you may have other a busy schedule. We provide a
variety of sessions and social activities so that you can choose which ones are most relevant to your interests and needs.
Orientation: Spouses, Children & Friends
Depending on the event, your family is welcome to go with
you. Unfortunately, camp is only open to students who
are enrolled at UW as university vans do not allow spouses,
girlfriends, boyfriends, or children to go. Other events
that require sign up give priority to students, but if
we have space family members are welcome to attend.
