International Orientation Schedule

International Student Orientation is designed for new internationals coming to the University of Washington. The FIUTS orientation program provides a chance for students to learn more about the University of Washington and Seattle, receive infomation about immigration, health care, personal saftey and meet current international students. FIUTS will contact you directly before you arrive with detailed orientation information. Please attend as many events as possible.

Some social activites have required sign up and cost a small fee (cash or checks only please). We look forward to meeting you!

Monday, September 8 - Wednesday, September 10
Greeting Table, Husky Union Building (HUB) Lobby Open from 10 am - 1 pm

Your first point of contact, at the Greeting Table you can learn from current UW students how to check in with the Office of International Students and Scholars, sign up for orientation activities and get your new international student arrival packet. Daily Welcome Sessions will be offered at 1:00 PM in HUB 110 while the Greeting Table is open.

Opening Day, HUB Ballroom 9am

Your official welcome to the University of Washington. FIUTS and the UW will welcome more than 1000 new international students. The day will start of with breakfast and information tables. The morning's agenda includes speakers from the University of Washington and FIUTS along with guest speakers from the community. Following Opening Day's events, FIUTS facilitators will provide a guided tour of campus and the
U-District.
*Please note, there will be no ISS check-ins on Opening Day.

Greeting Table, 10 am - 1 pm

Downtown Seattle Tour,
Visit Seattle's main attractions and get to know other's on this giuded tour of downtown Seattle. The tour will end at Woodland Park, which is the site of the Welcome Barbeque.

Welcome Barbeque (BBQ), Woodland Park
Meet with currents students, community members, and other new internationals at an American-style BBQ. Enjoy a game of soccer or ultimate frisbee. Families welcome! All food, condiments, water and sports equipment will be provided by FIUTS. For those not giong on the downtown tour meet at the Burke Cafe at 5:15pm. (Advanced sign-up; FREE)

 

Saturday, September 13 - Sunday, September 14:

Camp Arnold Eatonville,
Make friends and have fun at this overnight event. There will be fun activities such as hiking, sports, campfire, dancing, cultural skits and more. Bring a sleeping bag, clothes, shoes, lunch and water for the hike. No alchohol allowed! Meet at the Burke Cafe at 8:30 am. (Advanced Sign-Up Required; $40)

Greeting Table, 10 am - 1 pm

Pub Quiz
Students will be put into teams and then display their international knowledge. Prizes will be given out to the team with he most correct answers. This event is open to all ages-bring money for food and drinks! Meet at the Burke Cafe at 4:30pm. (Advanced Sign-Up; $2)

Greeting Table, 10 am - 1 pm

Space Needle & Dinner Out, Tuesday,
One of Seattle's best known landmarks, built for the 1962 World's Fair. At the top of this structure you can have a 360 degree view. Then join FIUTS facilitators for dinner at Zeek's Pizza. Meet at the Burke Cafe at 4:30pm. (Advanced Sign-Up, $35)

Games Night at the HUB,
Get together with other students for a fun evening of bowling, table tennis, pool and more. Meet at the HUB Basement at 7pm. (Advanced Sign-Up; $5)

International Welcome Night at the Burke Museum,
Did you stay with a FIUTS host family or have a FIUTS friendship connection? If so, you and your host family or Friendship Connection are invited to join this reception to thank all of our community volunteers. All are welcome, even without family or Friendship Connection. Meet at the Burke Museum at 7pm. (Advanced Sign-Up Required; Free for students with homestays or Friendship Connection; $7 without)

Greeting Table, 10 am - 1 pm

FIUTS's Mini World Cup,
Men and women from various countries and regions will compete for the ultimate FIUTS World Cup title! This is a mini soccer (football) tournament played on shortened fields and shortened periods. Come play and/or cheer on your country mates. Meet at IMA Soccer Field at 4pm. (Advanced Sign-Up, walk-ons welcome; FREE)

Saturday, September 20:

Dim Sum Breakfast in International District,
Enjoy a traditional Cantonese-style brunch in the International District--always a favorite! Foods contains pork and shrimp. Meet at Burke Cafe at 11am. (Advanced Sign-Up, $10 and bring $10-12 for food)

Sunday, September 21:

Rotary International Boat Cruise,
Join the Rotary Club for a scenic harbor cruise and dinner aboard the Argosy Cruises' Spirit of Seattle. Enjoy views of downtown Seattle at sunset. Meet Rotarians and their high school exchange students. This is a great chance to meet the international community of Seattle. (Advanced Sign-Up, limit to 350) Meet at the Burke Cafe at 2:15pm to be at the Pier by 3:15pm. (Advanced Sign-U; $20)
