Faces of FIUTS: Bely Lor

Faces of FIUTS is a social media campaign that collects personal stories from individuals who are part of our work. During July and August, we will be introducing the 2020-2021 FIUTS Student Board. This week, meet Bely Lor, Co-Director of the FIUTS Student Board!

Where are you from?
I am from Cambodia, a country in Southeast Asia that borders Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. The weather here is humid and there are many tropical fruits like durian, mangosteen, longan and rambutan. At the age of 16 years old, I moved to Dallas to continue my high school education. And finally, move to Seattle 2 years ago for university.

What's your FIUTS story?
I heard about FIUTS from my friend who is part of the marketing committee for the Global Gala. After hearing her positive experience, I decided to learn more about the organization and that’s when I realized that I share the same value as FIUTS. Due to this, I really want to help further FIUTS missions and build connections with people from different backgrounds. From then on, I have been involved with many FIUTS programs and events such as being an intern at FIUTS, Pen Pal, and Wednesday Lunch. Currently, I am a student facilitator and one of the co-directors of the student board. I am super excited about the upcoming year because I get to work with amazing people on the student board and the FIUTS team.

How will you change the world?
I hope to change the world by sharing my finance knowledge with people who don't have access to this information so they will have a better understanding of how to control and grow their assets. When people have this knowledge it will help them better prepared for their retirement. I believe this is very important because it could help reduce the number of retired elders who otherwise wouldn't be able to support themselves financially.
