Pan-Africa Youth Leadership Program

About the Program

April 10th - April 24rd, 2024

FIUTS hosted a cohort of the pan-africa youth leadership program

During this program, 21 high school aged students and 8 adult mentors developed leadership and civic engagement skills, learned about U.S. history and culture, and built a network of Pan-African emerging leaders, forging bonds between youth from the African continent and Washington State. The participating countries were Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, and Rwanda.

U.S.-based Student Ambassadors communicated with African students to learn about one another’s culture, discuss shared topics of interest, and build new international relations. The program began in Atlanta, Georgia for the first few days (April 4-10) and continued in Seattle (April 10-24).

FIUTS produced this program through a contract with Meridian International Center, and the program was fully funded by the U. S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Seattle-area community members could become community hosts for students and mentors. The homestay dates were April 10-23rd.

Local youth in the Puget Sound region could get involved in PAYLP by applying to be a FIUTS Ambassador. Ambassadors were a critical piece of the program who participated in weekly cultural exchange activities. FIUTS Ambassadors learn new skills, build their resume, make international friends and have fun! For questions, contact Nada Ramadan at nada@fiuts.org.
