Thanksgiving 2019

a heartwarming tradition

Thanksgiving hosting has been a hallmark FIUTS tradition since the organization’s founding in the 1940s. For international students visiting the University of Washington, the program is a way to experience American traditions and culture from a local perspective. For Seattleites, it’s a way to learn new traditions and make connections with people from around the world.

This past Thanksgiving, FIUTS successfully placed 107 students with more than 25 local hosts. Please enjoy the following gallery - photos graciously sent in by hosts and students.

~Upcoming hosting opportunity~

In January, FIUTS is welcoming students from Angola, Botswana, Mali, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe as part of the Study of the U.S. Institute (SUSI) for Student Leaders on Civic Engagement. You have the ability to continue the homestay tradition and make Seattle a welcoming place for these students- many of whom will be coming to the United States for the very first time.

Curious about how to become involved? Read more and fill out the Host Availability Survey here. Already part of the Homestay Program? Contact Samantha for more information on how to host for SUSI.
