Announcing the CulturalFest 2017 Performance Showcase Lineup

You may have noticed the countdown on our homepage -- the FIUTS CulturalFest Performance Showcase is only 52 days away! We're excited to announce this year's incredible lineup of talented performers from all over the world. These amazing individuals and groups will share music and dance at Meany Hall on Saturday, February 25; buy your tickets online now!

 
 

This year's CulturalFest performers are:

Taiko Kai (Japan): This drumming group fuses traditional elements with more modern themes, creating contemporary rhythms and sounds.

Zaya Delgerjargal (Mongolia): Zaya Delgerjargal performs a solo dance, embodied in swift movement of hands and shoulders with quick transitioning between movements.

Ethiopia: This dance group will showcase the different, vibrant cultures of multiple tribes within Ethiopia, through clothing and dance.

11 Strings Ensemble (China): This instrumental group will perform “The Butterfly Lovers” with violin, piano, guqin, and flute.

Hui Hoaloha ‘Ulana (Hawai’i): Hui, UW’s Hawai’i Club, presents two types of Hula dances: kahiko and ‘auana.

Seattle Irish Dance Company (Ireland): The Seattle Irish Dance Company makes music of their own in this piece, setting the stage for a lively reel. You'll see traditional steps performed in this dance, with some modern twists.

Maria George (India): A trained Indian classical dancer, Maria George will perform an Indian fusion dance composition, choreographed using traditional Indian classical dance forms (Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi) set to popular western music.

Tanak Borneo (Malaysia): Dance group Tanak Borneo will celebrate the diversity of their country, featuring cultural dance signifying the different races and tribes of Malaysia.

Daniel Kappellmann (Mexico): Daniel Kappellmann will sing his interpretation of two songs from highly recognized Mexican artists from the 1970s-1990s.

Rise (China): This classical dance group takes inspiration from an ancient Chinese poem and have reinterpreted it through their choreography.

UW Kahaani (India): UW Kahaani tells a Bollywood-like story through dance, voice-acting, props, costumes, and more.

Tanak Borneo at FIUTS CulturalFest 2016

Ticket Information:

General admission tickets are on sale now for $15 online. Discounted student tickets are available for $10 in advance at the FIUTS office (HUB 206) or at Wednesday Lunch (January 4 and February 1). Tickets will also be available at the door for $15. Children 10 and under are free but do need a ticket to enter. Buy your tickets today!

Also, remember to join us for free cultural activities and more at the International Expo on Friday, February 10, in the Husky Union Building (HUB) Ballrooms, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. See you there!
