Celebrating Excellence: FIUTS Students in the Husky 100
Established in 2015, the Husky 100 recognizes 100 UW undergraduate and graduate students from Bothell, Seattle and Tacoma in all areas of study who are making the most of their time at the UW.
FIUTS is proud to announce that four students who are active members of our community have been selected this year! We asked Simran, Chiara, Catherine, and Shruti to share how FIUTS has impacted their UW experience. Here is what they had to say…
Simran Bhatia
Senior // Informatics: Data Science
“In my freshman year, I tried to challenge myself by actively stepping out of my comfort zone and working with people from diverse backgrounds. I joined FIUTS to build connections, along with which, I learned about student leadership. Even though I was hesitant, the FIUTS staff pushed me to take a leadership role, and I started by facilitating campus tours. Gradually, I moved from stumbling through ice-breakers to serving as the Vice President of FIUTS. It was gratifying to see that people believed in my potential, even when I did not believe in myself. I am always grateful to the FIUTS community for helping me build my confidence and giving me a community for life.”
CHIARA Desantis
Senior // Public Health – Global Health, Spanish
“FIUTS inspired me to always go out of my comfort zone and interact with students from different backgrounds and walks of life. By doing this, I was reminded how crucial it is to respect others’ culture and customs. FIUTS ingrained in me the idea that the world is big and there is always more to learn.”
Catherine Zeng
Junior // Human Centered Design & Engineering
“Being part of the FIUTS community has helped me to understand and appreciate the values of not only cultural "fits" but also cultural "adds". The Community Visit program in Sequim during the Irrigation Festival has especially stayed with me and become an invaluable part of my UW experience.”
Shruti Rajagopalan
Senior // Informatics (Human-Computer Interaction)
FIUTS has not only become a home away from home for me, but also for thousands of international students. I have had such a wonderful time pointing peers, residents, friends, and even strangers to FIUTS, as I know FIUTS is a safe space for people from all walks of life. One event that FIUTS hosts that has been a go-to for me has been Wednesday lunches. I have had such stimulating and interesting conversations with people from all over the world. Not to mention, I am extremely grateful for the nutritious food and snacks from around the globe.”
Congratulations to these four students and to ALL of the incredible students who are making amazing strides on campus and in the community. We're so proud to have you as part of FIUTS!
