FIUTS Statement on Racial Justice

Our hearts are with everyone who is struggling with fear and anger following the murder of George Floyd and many other Black Americans at the hands of people who are supposed to protect us. Institutional racism affects every corner of this country and every aspect of our lives, and FIUTS stands with the anti-racist movements that are working for political, economic, and social justice for the Black community.

As protests in solidarity with those in the United States have spread around the globe, we see how Black Americans’ experience of systemic oppression and structural violence resonates with so many others worldwide. Racism is a global issue, and each of us has a role to play to lift up voices that have historically been silenced, unlearn our own implicit biases, and heal the wounds of racism in our societies.

FIUTS is committed to creating affirming and inclusive spaces where everyone can feel safe from racism and discrimination. We believe in the power of young people, and are proud of all the students and alumni in our community who are speaking out, advocating for themselves and others, and working for change here and around the world.
