Photo Contest: Cats

The FIUTS Photo Contest is a weekly opportunity for members of the FIUTS community to share images from around the world. The theme for this week was "cats.” Since last Friday, we received photos of ten lovely cats by photographers from South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and the U.S.

There were many great submissions and it was difficult for the FIUTS Staff to choose just three winners! Thank you to everyone for sharing your pictures - continue on to see photo entries and contest winners…

“This photo was taken during my visit to Enoshima. It is an island in Kanagawa, Japan, and it is very famous for its shrines, beautiful beach, and lots of cats. This cat is wearing an amulet called "omamori" on its collars. It is often sold at shrines and temples in Japan and brings users various forms of good luck. I occasionally go to Enoshima to make a wish at the shrines and take lots of cat photos. When I saw this cat wearing a small blue omamori amulet, I felt very lucky to find it sleeping soundly on its favorite stone. Maybe it gave me some of its good luck!”

“This is a picture of Zumba. He is a cat my uncle got to catch rats at his place. At first he did his job of catching rats, but I heard he just likes to play with rats these days. I took this picture of him under the bed I was using while staying at my uncle's place. It looks like he is waiting to sneak attach me with with his cute meow meow punch. Also it looks like he is a bubblehead.”

“This was Jasmine, my best friend's Siamese cat. A bit on the round side, she had an attitude and carefully picked humans to like. After she found one, she offered plenty of loud purring and head nudging. Unfortunately she passed away from cancer earlier this year. But sometimes when I am drifting between sleep and waking in the morning, I can still hear her meowing outside my door, asking to be let in.”
