Husky 100: Congratulations Bertwocane and Francis

Established in 2015, the Husky 100 recognizes 100 UW undergraduate and graduate students from Bothell, Seattle and Tacoma in all areas of study who are making the most of their time at the UW.

FIUTS is proud to celebrate Francis Abugbilla and Bertwocane Adera, two FIUTS students who were selected this year! We asked them share how FIUTS has impacted their UW experience. Here is what they had to say…

“An invaluable and indelible part of my Husky experience is working with the Foundational for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS). It is the organization I have been most engaged with and learned a lot about the American society through its many events and programs. As an Ambassador with FIUTS, I have mentored undergraduate students from universities in Southern Africa who came to the UW through the Study of U.S. Institutes (SUSI) program and exchange students from Ehime University, Japan. I maintain strong ties with my mentees via social media where I give them advice on their schoolwork. Moreover, FIUTS organizes the annual CulturalFest with the main goal of exposing the world to elementary and middle schoolers, the UW as well as the Seattle community. International students represent their countries, and I don’t miss this opportunity to showcase the cultural artifacts of Ghana.” -Francis Abugbilla

“FIUTS allowed me to connect with people from various backgrounds and gain a greater perspective on different world views. Through the SUSI Ambassadors program, I was able to make long lasting friendships and learn more about different cultures. I am grateful for all the FIUTS events and programs that have helped me get out of my comfort zone.” -Bertwocane Adera

Congratulations, Bertwocane and Francis, and thank you for being part of the FIUTS family!
