FIUTS Statement Regarding Events at the Capitol
Over the last few hours, we have been receiving many questions and messages of concern from international students and alumni about the current situation in Washington D.C. FIUTS would like to acknowledge the seriousness of this unprecedented situation for our country, and we understand the fear and confusion that many people are feeling at the moment.
As events are still unfolding, we ask that our community stay calm and be responsible in how you consume and share news as it happens. When things are changing so quickly, it can be challenging to know what information is accurate. The UW Center for an Informed Public has useful resources on how to identify misinformation. Additionally, you can take a break from news or social media if it is causing stress and anxiety; UW has many mental health resources as well: https://wellbeing.uw.edu/topic/mental-health/.
At FIUTS, we stand against violence, and we believe in the strength of our democracy. We also recognize the courage and dedication of those who are working in many ways to make our country live up to its promise of equality in these chaotic times. Please feel free to reach out to our staff with any questions or concerns at info@fiuts.org, and keep an eye on our social media for additional updates and opportunities to engage in conversation.
