FIUTS Photo Contest for #WorldCitiesDay: Cities of the World

The FIUTS Photo Contest is an opportunity for members of the FIUTS community to share images from around the world. In honor of World Cities Day, the theme for this month is "Cities of the World.” We were thrilled that so many people sent their beautiful photos from all over the globe!

Thank you so much to everyone for sharing your beautiful pictures, and congratulations to the winners. Please come to the FIUTS office in Schmitz 250 between 12-4pm, Monday through Friday, to collect your prize!

First Place: carlos yu (China)

“This photo was in fact not taken in my hometown Shanghai, but in a town close by. The town was named TongLi, which kept its building styles and ways of living for decades, and gave people a peek at the lives back in the days.”

Second Place: Sumiran Nigam (india)

“My photo features the amazing city of Seattle. The photo was taken from a ferry when I was heading down from Bainbridge Island to Seattle late in the evening on October 23rd. Seattle downtown never fails to take me into awe and this was one of those moments!”

Third Place: Steffen Coenen (germany)

“The photo was taken in Aachen, Germany, in its historic city center between the gothic town hall and the Aachener Dom (its 800 AD Roman Catholic cathedral, one of the oldest in Europe). In the foreground, one can see an arrangement of pillars equipped with levers. Any person passing can pull the lever and, through this, express one vote to shut off the old and fragile Tihange nuclear power plant situated right across the border to Belgium, endangering communities not just in the close vicinity, but a wide region across several countries in middle Europe.”

Congratulations Carlos, Sumiran, and Steffen! And thank you to everyone who participated in this month’s contest - please take a look through the gallery below to see all the incredible submissions we received!
