Students on a FIUTS Urban Hike during Fall International Welcome Weeks 2021

Classes officially started last week, bringing an end to Orientation and International Welcome Weeks. FIUTS was so excited to welcome students in person for the Fall 2021 quarter!

Between September 13-28, we had a great time meeting a couple thousand new friends, collaborating with partners on- and off-campus, taking students canoeing, seeing the aquarium, playing sports outside of the IMA ,and more.

Now - you can take our word for it, but numbers speak a thousand words! These numbers represent the incredible individuals engaged in the FIUTS community. Take a look…

Over 2600

Over 2600 students are now a part of the UW and Seattle community! A big welcome from FIUTS again, and we are excited to see you all throughout the year. (Check out our events and activities to stay involved and make new friends all year long!)

NUMBER OF CAMPUS TOURS GIVEN:

The University of Washington is a beautiful campus. It is HUGE too. We wanted to provide campus tours targeted to international students during these weeks to not only help them familiarize themselves with the campus but to meet fellow international students during the process.

Number of Embark sessions held:

33

Embark is a program designed to welcome new students once they arrive in person to the U.S. All new international students on F-1 or J-1 visas at the University of Washington are required to attend one Embark session. Most years it is an in-person event, however, given COVID they were 1.5-hour zoom orientations.

NUMBER OF ORGANIZATIONS/ people PARTNERED WITH (UW/NON-UW):

14

We had the privilege to make all this happen by getting to work with some amazing organizations and offices. We had the opportunity to partner with 13 different organizations throughout these two weeks. These included UW PD, International Student Services, UW Hub Games, the Waterfront Activities Center, the IMA, Welcoming Week US, Seattle Aquarium, CIRCLE, UW Kahani, American Campus, US Bank, UW Libraries, East Asian Libraries, and Bill Mohoney, Associate Dean of the Graduate School.

FIUTS had a great time working with students, hosts, and organizations during these fun and exciting weeks! Thank you to all the students and organizations that we worked with. Seeing everyone in person (even with masks on) was the highlight of the start of the year and we’re excited to continue to see you all around campus!
