ADULTS

This year we have over 20 books to recommend for those special avid readers in your life. Whether it’s regarding personal development or global development- FIUTS bookshop has something for everyone!

Factfulness by Hans Rosling

For the pessimist of the family.... Factufulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World- and Why Things Are Better Than You Think debunks old perspectives and ways of thinking about the state of the world. Rosling takes on explaining the reasons for distorted answers to questions about global trends such as the percentage of the world's population living in poverty or how many girls finish school. It turns out the world, as crazy as it is, is in a much better state than we think and he has the numbers to back it up.

The Murmur of Bees by Sofía Segovia

For the historical fiction lover...A pandemic, political and social instability, a family trying to navigate a changing world, and a dash of magical realism, Sofia Segovia could have set The Murmur of the Bees in 2020 instead of ~1918 Mexico and it would still have the same impact. Beautifully written, immersive and thought-provoking, this novel is excellent for reading group discussions.

Joyful by Ingrid Fetell Lee

For the reader in search of joy... Designer and TED star Ingrid Fetell Lee teaches how small changes in one's external environment can generate great happiness in everyday life.

Beyond Guilt Trips By Dr. Anu Taranth

Dr. Anu Taranath's latest book on the hundreds of thousands of young people that pack their bags to study or volunteer abroad. She speaks on how well-intentioned perspectives and curiosity can bring much-needed insight to the travelers but as well as be deeply unsettling, confusing, and discomforting. Travelers can find themselves unsure about how to think or speak about the differences in race or culture they find, even though these differences might have fueled their desire to travel in the first place
