Summer Opportunities with FIUTS
Congratulations to all the recent graduates in the FIUTS Community! We're grateful for the impact you've made during your time at UW. We'll miss you, and we're excited to see what you do next.
And don’t worry, the fun isn’t over! There are plenty of opportunities for recent grads, current students, hosts, and others to continue to build cross-cultural understanding in the coming months. Here are a few ways to stay engaged with FIUTS this summer:
Opportunities for Current UW Students
Become a FIUTS Facilitator! (Ongoing)
Meet students from around the world, develop your leadership skills, and boost your resume by becoming a FIUTS Facilitator! Student leaders have the unique opportunity to connect with international friends through (in-person!) events like our Mt. Rainier hike, Super Caffeinated Tour, and more!
While a driver's license is not required to become a FIUTS facilitator, you can receive big discounts on events by helping to navigate our Global Getaways! All current University of Washington students studying at the undergraduate and graduate level are welcome to apply. To learn more, visit: https://www.fiuts.org/become-a-leader
Be an Ambassador for the Uzbekistan Youth Leadership Program!
(in-person, August 8-21)
FIUTS is seeking up to 17 UW students to volunteer as Ambassadors for a 3-week in-person exchange with students from Uzbekistan. The students are 17-19 years old and will be starting university in Uzbekistan in fall 2021.
Ambassadors act as cultural liaisons, peer mentors, and friends during the program. The time commitment includes a workshop and activities on Sunday, August 8 as well as occasional lunchtime and evening activities through August 21; exact dates and times TBD. Please join us for this exciting return to in-person Ambassador programming!
Opportunities for hosts
"Virtual Hosting": Connect with Youth Ambassadors from Brazil
Meetings on July 20 & 30 + additional communication
FIUTS is thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with World Learning this summer to host the Youth Ambassadors Program with Brazil for the first time!
We are excited to connect with these exceptional high school students and their adult mentors, and are seeking hosts who can meet with them virtually on July 20 and 30 from 5:30-6:30pm, as well as arrange additional meetings in between these dates at mutually convenient times for you and the students.
Interested hosts can sign up and express your preference for meeting dates and time here: www.fiuts.org/yap-brazil-hosting
In-person opportunity: Host a young leader from Uzbekistan for activities & dinner
August 15 & 19
We have a big, exciting announcement for hosts! In August, we will be welcome a group of 17 students ages 17-19 from Uzbekistan for a 3-week, in-person program in Seattle through a partnership between FIUTS and American Councils for International Education. We are so excited to welcome these young leaders!
While we are still not arranging overnight homestays, we are seeking hosts who can host 1-3 students on the afternoon and evening of Sunday, August 15 and/or the evening of Thursday, August 19 (we will prioritize hosts who can host on both dates, but if you can only do one, that's okay - please let us know!). You will be able to arrange your own activities and meals of your choice with your students on those days. Hosts will also be invited to a final dinner and celebration on August 21.
Interested? Contact Samantha Novak at samantha@fiuts,org for more details and to sign up!
