Faces of FIUTS: Meet Chau
Faces of FIUTS is a social media campaign that collects personal stories from individuals who are part of our work. This week, meet Chau!
Where are you from? I was born in Vietnam and moved to Spokane, WA when I was 4.
What's your FIUTS story? Actually, my friend volunteered with FIUTS for an event and she later introduced me to the organization. I have always been interested in different cultures, thus I knew that I had to join. Since joining FIUTS, I have found a great community that allowed me to break out of my comfort zone and become who I am today. Volunteering with FIUTS have developed both my leadership and communication skills.
How will you change the world? Personally, I love helping students adjust to their new college life because I myself am a first-gen college student who had to blindly navigate my way through college. Because I didn't really have anyone there to help me, I know how important it is for some students to have a support base, and through FIUTS I have become a point of reference for those students in need. Outside of FIUTS, I work as a mentor for younger students in my scholarship program, and I also work as a BS Peer Advisor for my own department.
Chau Nguyen is a senior majoring in Human-Centered Design and Engineering (HCDE) at UW. She joined as a facilitator in 202 and got more involved by joining a few committees like the CulturalFest Performance Committee, the Global Gala Committee, and the Orientation Committee. Chau is currently serving on the 2021-2022 FIUTS Student Board as the Co-Chair for the Culturalfest Performance Committee.
