Featured staff member of the month: Alex Radi - Manager of Student Programs

Alex and the FIUTS community

Our professional world is ever-changing, and there are moments that tug at the heartstrings and remind us of the bonds we've formed along the way. Today, FIUTS bids farewell to a cherished member of our team, Alex Radi - Manager of Student Programs.

Alex started working at FIUTS the fall of 2019 when he stepped into the role of Program Manager for student programs. He mentions that it was an intriguing shift after several years of working with immigration matters. The reason why he got into this role was because of the exciting prospect of nurturing emerging leaders through student cohorts. Little did he know that the world was about to change dramatically with the pandemic. Every week turned into a quest for engagement, striving to keep our community thriving amid uncertainty.  The pandemic, an ever-evolving challenge, tested our ability to adapt. Crafting innovative events that embodied our community's spirit while fostering engagement became challenging. Student involvement required creative approaches to encourage active participation.

Amidst the challenges, the students remained his driving force. “Their stories, dreams, and global perspectives gave purpose to my work,” says Alex. Every day was a learning opportunity to know more about this diverse society in Seattle which was united by a shared pursuit of community and growth.

We asked Alex what was the most fulfilling aspect of his role:

“It's those moments when a student approaches me after a successful event or quarter, expressing their genuine gratitude and satisfaction. Their words of affirmation after the long hours spent and dedication poured into the work really made it all worthwhile.”

“Reflecting on my journey, I take immense pride in my work with the student board. The relationships built, the growth witnessed, and the inspiration drawn from these remarkable student leaders have left an everlasting mark. Each interaction, each lesson shared, has made me a better mentor and person.”

In the midst of it all, Alex wears various hats. He is a writer, a former musical theater performer, and a culinary school graduate. These facets weave into the tapestry of who he is, enriching his perspective and adding depth to his interactions.

When Alex was asked if he could describe himself in a few words, he refers to the poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann, which he says is his personal mantra. It's a reminder to cherish each moment, value everyone you meet, and to strive for happiness no matter the challenges. It's the culmination of all the wisdom he’s gathered on this remarkable journey. “If you really want to know me, read Desiderata and you will understand who I am.”

Alex will forever hold a unique place at FIUTS. He has left an incredible imprint on so many people’s journeys throughout his time at the organization. From all of the members of the community, we wish for Alex to carry all the admiration, gratitude, and respect. From everyone at FIUTS, we wish Alex the best of luck on his new adventures. May your path be illuminated by success, and may your journey be as extraordinary as the impact you've had on us.
