At FIUTS CulturalFest, you can not only enjoy traditional culture of different countries but also the fusion of modern and traditional cultures through younger generations and the mutual influence of cultures driven by globalization.
UW Junoon was founded on the commitment to incorporate diverse styles into traditional Bollywood dance, connecting young women who love to dance with Indian heritage abroad. They are participating in CulturalFest for the first time and are going to recreate a sensational Bollywood fusion dance on stage! Get ready for the blast starting here:
UW Junoon Members for 23-24 School Year
UW Junoon is an all-girls Competitive Bollywood Fusion Dance Team that gives students a platform to showcase their talent in any dance form.
We hope to perform at CultureFest to share our passion for South Asian dance and culture. In our dance, we combine western dance styles our members have grown up around with the South Asian art from our heritage. In our weekly practices, we brainstorm new ways to incorporate diverse styles and along the way, we learn the history behind different South Asian cultures. As students, we have so much fun bonding through learning about our culture via dance and love the performance we collaboratively create from scratch every year. As we gain appreciation for new styles, we hope to awe the audience with our unique performance! Ultimately, through our showcase, we hope to foster a deeper appreciation for South Asian culture and diversity in the student community.
We will be showcasing a Bollywood-fusion piece that will have a variety of dance styles such as kuthu, hiphop, Bollywood, Indian classical, and contemporary. Bollywood dance is the music and dance styles from Hindi movies, and they usually only have one style so we wanted to combine our Indian culture with other types of dance styles we have grown up watching. During our performance, we also used different styles to show the different emotions during our storyline such as using slower contemporary dance during the sad parts and using fast-paced Bollywood or Kuthu during happy and exciting moments.
Events like CulturalFest are important for fostering cultural understanding since they provide a platform for people of various backgrounds to celebrate their cultures. The audience and other performers are able to experience cultures they might have never even heard of and start appreciating and celebrating the different cultures.
