Each year, FIUTS CulturalFest organizes a group of self-driven, dedicated individuals who are committed to promoting cultural understanding. They take full responsibility of presenting any aspect of their culture they feel comfortable sharing. From ideation, to execution, to final interaction with the audience, their work is more than a cultural demonstration but a process of self-discovery and development. This is what makes Booth Captain such a unique leadership position.

Hello! I’m Shiarina Wang from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. TYAPN (Taiwanese Youth Alliance of Pacific Northwest), is a cultural RSO at UW dedicated to the professional success and social bonding of Taiwanese students. 

As a Booth Captain, I take immense pride in representing my culture to interested individuals at events. This role is not just about coordinating activities at the booth but also about being a cultural ambassador. It's a continuous learning experience, refining my communication and leadership skills as I navigate diverse audiences. The challenges, like adapting to unexpected situations, are opportunities for personal growth. Networking and connecting with people from different backgrounds provide a sense of fulfillment, contributing to the broader goal of promoting cultural awareness and diversity. Being a Booth Captain is more than a role; it's a chance to share, learn, and foster understanding. 

We’re going to recreate the bustle of Taiwan's Night Market at Expo this year. Taiwanese night markets hold a special place in our hearts as they embody the essence of fun, socialization, and delicious food in a festive atmosphere. This tradition, deeply embedded in the Taiwanese culture and economy, has evolved over the years. Personally, and for many Taiwanese, the night market holds nostalgic significance, representing cherished memories from our upbringing. Despite the passage of time and various changes, the night market remains a steadfast part of our present, symbolizing the beautiful blend of old and new in our culture. To convey the vibrancy of this tradition, we have prepared a handbook and poster, offering insights into our culture, knowledge, and history, encouraging engagement from participants of all ages. 

Attending CulturalFest is not just an annual tradition for us, but a valuable chance for our members to grow closer and learn more about Taiwanese culture. It serves as a meaningful platform for us to explore and appreciate our heritage together, fostering both unity within TYAPN and a deeper connection to our roots. Moreover, CulturalFest serves as a unique platform for individuals to learn and appreciate diverse perspectives, contributing to a more interconnected and understanding community.
