During this session, you will learn what led panelists to pursue a career in law, their experiences in academia, and professional pathways thereafter. All students and community members are welcome to attend this event — you do not need to be a current law student.

Jessica Giner serves as a Municipal Court Judge for the City of Renton, where she is committed to supporting the court’s developing community court program serving the City of Renton.  Prior to her judicial appointment, Judge Giner served as a judge pro tem for seven years in a dozen courts in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties. Judge Giner is a member of the Washington District and Municipal Court Judges Association, the National Association of Women Judges, the Washington State Bar Association, the King County Bar Association, and Washington Women Lawyers.  Judge Giner has previously served as a member of the King County Council Women’s Advisory Board where she worked to advocate for the needs of women and their families in King County.

Judge Giner volunteers with the YMCA Mock Trial program where she serves as a head coach for a local high school, the Rotary Club of Renton, the Renton Chamber of Commerce, and local youth service organizations including Classrooms in the Courtrooms, Girl Scouts of Western Washington, and Little League. 

Prior to her judicial service, Judge Giner served as a special assault unit prosecutor where she prosecuted domestic violence and sexual assault crimes before opening her private defense practice serving clients charged with criminal offenses in the greater Puget Sound area.  Judge Giner received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Seattle University School of Law where she was honored by the National Association of Women’s Judges. 

Judge Giner has also served as an Associate Faculty Member at City University of Seattle and Everett Community College teaching Criminal Justice.  Judge Giner previously served as the first woman Department Chair of Everett Community College’s Public Safety Department.  Her work on juvenile sentencing guidelines, forensic technology, and implicit bias in the classroom has been published.

Priya Sinha Cloutier is a senior intellectual property attorney with experience in all aspects of intellectual property protection, strategy and law, including patents, trademarks, copyright, and trade secrets and addressing issues regarding patentability analysis, drafting, filing, patent prosecution, transactions, standards, cease and desist issues, indemnification, due diligence, trademark and patent infringement analysis, design arounds, right to market clearances, competitive landscapes, and requests to license. Expertise in drafting and negotiating international, commercial, supplier, partner, collaboration and development agreements, joint research, NDAs, supply contracts, master service agreements, SaaS, cloud services and software, and consortium deals with strong IP, export control, compliance, and other complex issues. Experience with client counseling on IP strategy and open source and client, paralegal and attorney training, trade secret protection, document marking, government contracts compliance. Experience as outside general counsel for startups and closely held corporation, including outside counsel management, international employment, debt recovery, privacy, anti-corruption, and open source. Experience with government contracts (grants and CRADAs) and compliance programs.

Karol Brown is the managing attorney for World One Law Group, a law firm specializing in business, family, and humanitarian immigration. Karol received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Yale Law School. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and Bachelor's Degrees in Economics and International Studies from the University of Washington.

She has taught Immigration Law at the University of Washington School of Law. She founded the Center for Human Rights and Justice at the University of Washington and Seattle University law schools, which enables law students to take on human rights projects for organizations throughout the world. In 2010, Ms. Brown was awarded the Advocacy Award from the national American Immigration Lawyers Association for her work to promote the passage of comprehensive immigration reform.

​She serves on the Board of Trustees for FIUTS. She is active in the Democratic Party, currently serving as the Chair of the 41st Democrats. She has previously served on the boards for OneAmerica, Hands to Hearts International, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association of Washington.
