Announcing FIUTS Fridays: a regular weekly gathering to meet and connect with friends from around the globe! Between June and August 2021, we will host a different event each Friday to engage our international community in creative activities, culinary experiences, networking opportunities, and more.
This week's topic: Cookie Baking Lesson! Join Samantha Novak, FIUTS Manager of Community Programs, to make a unique American dessert you may not have heard of before: kitchen sink cookies! You may be wondering: what's inside these cookies? They're called kitchen sink cookies because they have “everything but the kitchen sink” in them! This means you can add any of your favorite sweets into the ultimate dessert cookie experience!
We'll give you tips and tricks as you go along, don't worry. Here's a suggested shopping list:
Basic Supplies & Ingredients:
Baking sheet
Non-stick spray or similar
1 stick (4 oz./8 Tbspn) butter
1 scant cup light brown sugar
1/2 tspn salt
1 tspn vanilla extract
1 egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup chocolate chips or chocolate chunks
Salt — ideally flaky (ex: maldon salt). Not required.
Example mix-ins: use as many as you’d like!
Toasted pecans
Slivered almonds
Other nuts
Chopped various types of chocolate (including flavored bars, ie a coffee chocolate bar)
A tablespoon of coffee grounds
Dried cranberries, dried cherries, other kinds of dried fruit, chopped if large in size
Potato chips
Popcorn
Marshmallows
Graham crackers
Saltines
Mini pretzels
Coconut
Pieces of toffee or toffee chips
Chopped candy bars (ex: Snickers) or chocolate based candy (ex: M&M’s)
Butterscotch or other flavored baking chips
