MLLI

Media Literacy & Leadership Institute (MLLI) with Mali

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The FIUTS MLLI is a 16-week virtual exchange opportunity for 20 aspiring young journalists and media-makers in Mali. Participants will:

  • build their journalism knowledge and skills through trainings and exchange with U.S. professionals and peers;

  • develop strategies for promoting media literacy and fighting disinformation in their country

  • and be a part of a network of journalists in Mali who are prepared to support one another and advocate for a vibrant, professional, and independent media

The program will be delivered virtually in three parts:

  1. An eight-week Virtual Training Program & Cultural Exchange during which participants will participate in webinars, virtual workshops, and assignments on journalism skills and media literacy led by U.S.-based journalists and university faculty working in both new and traditional media.

  2. An eight-week period in which selected participants will plan and implement their Media Literacy Action Projects to promote media literacy and counter disinformation, and/or train other aspiring journalists in professional skills and concepts.

  3. Program Debrief and Reflection in which participants will share and reflect upon their project successes and challenges, and plan the next steps in their journeys as leaders and media professionals.

Virtual Networking Reception with Journalists from Mali

Connect with young journalists and media-makers from Mali and learn more about their work! A virtual networking reception with participants in the FIUTS Media Literacy and Leadership Institute (MLLI) will be held over Zoom on Wednesday, March 30 from 10:30am-12:00pm (Pacific). While we particularly encourage French speakers to attend, we’ll have an English-speaking breakout room as well! All are welcome!
