Kanda University of International Studies
About the Program
FIUTS partnered with UW Bothell to host the Kanda University Program. The KUIS Program is a short-term visiting program for undergraduate students from Kanda University of International Studies in Japan. During the 3-week program in August, students gained understanding of U.S. diversity and the U.S. education system, grew their leadership capacity, expanded their English language skills, and became acquainted with people and places of interest in Seattle. Participants took classes on U.S. history and culture at UW Bothell, followed by site visits to schools and organizations, cultural excursions, communication workshops, and more.
Community Members were invited to host one or more Kanda participants for a portion of the program. The Homestay is an important opportunity for participants to learn about U.S. culture and connect with local people.
Seattle area university students could get involved in the Kanda program by applying to be a Japan Programs Ambassador. Ambassadors are a critical piece of the program and act as peer mentors, cultural liaisons, friends and student leaders. Ambassadors learned new skills, built their resume, made international friends and had fun! If you have questions about the Ambassador program, please contact FIUTS Programs Specialist: Education Programs , Nada Ramadan, at nada@fiuts.org.
