FIUTS
Uaiakinan ao Uarokoan Toronibwaia I-Kiribati (UUTI-Kiribati)
In summer, 2024, FIUTS hosted the first year of the UUTI-Kiribati Program, a 4-week summer program for high school students from the nation of Kiribati (pronounced: Kiribas), sponsored by the Millennium Challenge Corporation and implemented by American Councils for International Education. The UUTI was designed to strengthen language and technology skills, develop professional readiness, and experience Pacific Northwest and United States culture. This program included local homestays, excursions in the region, workshops with guest presenters, and other activities in partnership with Seattle youth and partner organizations.
language and technology skills
UUTI-Kiribati is a total immersion program, allowing students to expand their ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and effectively in the English language. Additionally, digital fluency and technical skills classes equipped students with today’s essentials skills.
Professional Development
In workshops and class curriculum, students explored how to successfully collaborate, contribute, and lead in multicultural workspaces. Cross-cultural leadership is an integral part of international cooperation and progress.
Cultural Exchange
Youth participants got to experience a different culture while calling the beautiful University of Washington’s campus home! Students got to know Seattle through activities on campus and throughout the greater Seattle area. Staying with local hosts families for a weekend, students were offered an authentic and unique snapshot of local living.
