Program Content and Schedule

The SUSI program will be delivered as a combination of classroom learning and experiential learning. Learning will take place in the form of lectures, workshops, small and large group activities, presentations, interactive assignments and discussion.

The SUSI program will take place primarily in the city of Seattle, which is located in the state of Washington on the west coast of the United States. We will also take a few trips to different areas within the state of Washington. Please note that the state of Washington is completely different from Washington D.C. - these two places are about six hours apart from one another by plane!

Please note that an earlier version of this website stated that part of the program would take place in Kansas City, Missouri. This is no longer the case, and the entire SUSI program will now take place in Washington.

Please note that during the program, you will be extremely busy! Most days, you will have class and/or activities from 9:30am-5:00pm, and there are also structured evening activities at least once a week. Most weekends involve some program activities as well. Please come prepared to work hard and participate fully in a rigorous, exciting program schedule!

Seattle Program Schedule: Site Visits, Tours, Meetings, Service Projects, and Workshops

Please note that once you arrive in the U.S. you will receive a detailed daily schedule with specific information about times and location for each day; we will review this schedule during orientation so that you will know exactly what is happening every day. Below, you will find a few of the organizations we will visit and workshops you will participate in during your time in Seattle with FIUTS. Of course, this is not a complete list, but will give you a chance to learn a little more about some of what we will do.

Course Curriculum

During your time in Seattle, you will take part in a course on “The History and Future of Work in a Changing World” coordinated by staff at the Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies and the Washington State Labor Education and Research Center. The program will order and pay for a course packet and books that will include all your readings.

General Expectations:
You must adhere to a high standard of academic integrity in all of your coursework. Expect to spend several hours each week working on your assignments outside of class time. You will need to pay close attention to due dates to ensure that you submit your assignments on time.

Leadership Curriculum

The FIUTS SUSI leadership curriculum curriculum aligns different leadership areas with competency-based activities that supports participants in their personal leadership goals and overall leadership identity development.  Throughout all leadership sessions, we’ll work together on developing as leaders in our ability to communicate with diverse groups, reflect and build on our own and others’ experiences, and tell stories to drive impact.
