Introduction

I lived in Texas for 3 years before moving into Seattle; however, that doesn’t mean I did not experience the culture shock. FIUTS pretty much made me feel like home almost immediately; I’m horrible at keeping a connection with friends, but that doesn’t mean I forget about everyone I met. I really enjoy music and gaming, I hate doing nothing – so I will always try to keep myself busy.

What does it mean to be a FIUTS facilitator?

I love meeting new people and learning more about their background from their own respective countries. Most of the time I am very swamped with work and school, so I always look forward to facilitating so I can meet with old friends or even new ones. Becoming a FIUTS facilitator has given me the opportunity to become a more open and welcoming person.

Favorite FIUTS anecdote as a facilitator

One of my best memories as a facilitator was when we had a hiking trip to Commodore/Discovery Park last spring. We had a big group at the beginning but were separated soon after we reached Commodore Park; after spending quite some time two other facilitators and I managed to gathered up everyone that was scattered. After a series of shortcuts and wishes, we managed to get through to the beach/light house and back home safe and sound. At the end of the day, everyone in the group was having fun.

Tips/comments for peer facilitators

Be open to converse with other people and share your stories! There maybe some problems when you facilitate an event, but don’t let that discourage you.  Be confident and just have fun!
