1st Place
“This is a photo of the Swayambhunath Stupa in Kathmandu, taken during my study abroad in Nepal last summer. This ancient stupa was having a religious celebration when we went there. Local people were walking around the stupa, buying flowers and incense, praying and singing. Hiking up to this hill just outside of Kathmandu, we were able to view the whole Kathmandu Valley up there, foggy, busy but beautiful!”

“It is the world's highest monastery connected with the roads. This place has an altitude of 14,830 ft and the oxygen level is below normal. And this is present in Himachal Pradesh state of India.”

“Hong Kong is known for skyscrapers, but it also has a lot of forests and vegetation. This photo was taken in Dragon's Back, one of the best hiking trails in Asia. It is a popular hiking site for locals and tourists. I was there 2 years ago with my mother and we had a fun time hiking while appreciating the view.”

“The picture was taken when I was having road trip in Taitung county, Taiwan. I was driving to an orange daylily scenery, however I turned at the wrong interception hence accidently found this amazing viewpoint. This viewpoint could clearly see the Huadong Valley in between two mountain ranges and it's breathtakingly beautiful.”
Kayden Tsai // Hometown: Taitung, Taiwan
“This photo was taken on a trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand when I visited an elephant sanctuary where they rescued elephants from horrible situations around Thailand and brought them to this land to spend the rest of their days by eating, sleeping, and bathing in mud. Some of the gentle giants were older and more cautious and kept their distance, while other, younger ones came to play with us by spraying us with water and mud. It was an incredible experience!”

“The Lake Twin Pavilions which located at the Taichung Park is the iconic historic site of Taichung. It was built in 1908 as a celebration of west Taiwan railway opening. This photo was taken after the Chinese New Year, and before Lantern Festival. The Park was decorated with lanterns to wish good luck for the coming new year.”
Zih-Hua Chen // Hometown: Taichung, Taiwan
“I was on a road trip in Inner Mongolia with my parents. We were in the Arxan National Forest Park. As we were driving, we spotted a lot of horses casually chilling in thigh-deep grass not far from the road. We found somewhere we could park and got off the car to watch the horses.
The sound of the horses chewing grass was so serene and therapeutic. There were a lot more horses around but they were quite scattered so I could only photography these ones. No one was watching them and it seems like they could just wander around freely and go home when they want to.
Later that night we planned to drive to a lake we saw in the day for stargazing. Within five minutes of driving from our cabin there was already no other light source than our own car headlight. We eventually got too intimidated to drive further, as the road was way too narrow, the lake was quite far, and we couldn't see where we were going. We drove off to a side branch of the road and stopped the car. We got off and looked up. I teared up immediately. The sky was so breathtaking. It was new moon and the air was so pure and dry that I got to see the best night sky of my life, and the milky way. It got quite cold, and we had one blanket in the car, so the three of us wrapped ourselves together in the one blanket, and continued looking up while keeping each other warm with our own body temperature. There were also a lot of shooting stars, so much so that we started a competition to see who spotted the most shooting starts. I was in a lasting state of anxiety about graduate school application at that time, but standing under the stars with my loving parents wrapped in the same blanket was a transcendent experience and lifted me out of all my worries at that time.”
