CulturalFest Countdown: Meet Dogg Pound Crew

Just one month to go until the CulturalFest Performance Showcase, featuring eleven performing artists who will share cultures from around the world on the Meany Hall stage. This year we're excited to welcome new performer Dogg Pound Crew to the lineup! Read on to learn more about them - and be sure to get your CulturalFest tickets online or in the FIUTS office!

How did your group begin? Tell a little bit of your story.

Dogg Pound was initially formed as Vicious Puppies in May 2008. We formed as a result of mentorship from Massive Monkees' Jerome "Jeromeskee" Aparis at local middle schools.

Since forming we've gotten opportunities to perform at well established locations throughout the city including Frye Art Museum, SAM, MOHAI, Moore Theater, Paramount Theater, and Key Arena, as well as many others. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to travel for dance and have competed across the whole west coast.

What do you hope audiences will take away from your performances?

Dogg Pound represents hip hop culture. We hope the audience learns that hip hop is not a culture of violence, but actually one of establishing connections and uniting the community.
