Six members of the FIUTS Student Board (2013-2014) - Khong, Jonathan, Sunita, Yanran, Saleh and Sarah - share their personal motivations for joining the board, what they have gained from the experience, and why they think you should apply to serve on next year's leadership team!

“FIUTS has provided me a better transition to US culture, opportunity to meet people from diverse backgrounds, and fun college life. I wanted to give back to FIUTS and its community, so I became a Facilitator. However, I knew I could contribute way more in term of helping with programming events and promoting FIUTS values to students on campus if I were a member of the Student Board.” –Chun Liang Khong, President

"Being on the Student Board has not only strengthened my leadership skills, but also my character. This experience has made me a more confident and assertive person than I ever thought possible." -Jonathan Cheng, Vice President

“Throughout my involvement with FIUTS, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with so many people from all over the world, learning about different cultures, views, and ideas. I’ve grown a lot as a person through these friendships as they have greatly broadened my mind. It’s an honor to be on the Student Board and be able to plan events that promote these sort of friendships!” –Nathan Huynh, CulturalFest Co-chair

Sunita Yang (above) is Wednesday Lunch Chair. She decided to join Student board not only because she wants to develop leadership skills, but also enables her to give back to this community she belongs to and love. At the position of Wednesday Lunch Chair, she has learned to be responsible to her duties and to the community. Being a representative for international students, she developed her critical thinking and also learned to think from other's side, which she believes these will be life-longing skills that she gained from FIUTS Student Board experience.

"It's a great honor for me to be on the Student Board. I like it when we work as a team and I've seen myself being more professional. It feels awesome when we successfully carried out some big events!" -Yanran Zheng, Secretary

“I met many people from different countries and backgrounds, and every time I learn something new about their culture. Also, within FIUTS community, working closely with amazing FIUTS staff members, FIUTS Student Board and fantastic FIUTS facilitators made me feel like home and helped me to overcome all the difficulties and changes in my new life in US.” –Saleh Alwabel, IELP Representative
