UW Housing and Food Services created a special Brazilian themed dinner option for the evening. The menu consisted of some Brazilian classics such as feijoada- a black bean and meat stew as well as a cake based off of the popular Brazilian desert brigadeiro. The line wrapped around the room with people anxious to try some Brazilian cuisine.

After the food UW Brazil Club hosted a series of activities to show people other aspects of Brazilian culture. Brazil Club members Gary Smith, Ijeoma Osakwe and club President Sophia Winkler gave cooking demonstrations on how to make pão de queijo, salsicha de molho tomate and brigadeiro.

Next there was a two part dance performance and lesson session. First Seattle dance group “Salsa Con Todo” taught the basics of Zouk, a Brazilian dance that started out as Lambada, the forbidden dance. Next Lucas Sales Policarpo who is spending 6 months in Seattle from Jacarei Brazil led a brief Samba lesson and almost everyone joined to dance to Michel Telo’s Ai Se Eu Te Pego.

Finally the night ended with a lively round of trivia about Brazil. Just in case you missed it one of the final round questions was: Who is the mascot for the 2014 World Cup? Meet Fuleco, an Armadillo and mascot for the upcoming World Cup!

Overall it was an excellent event and a fun time was had by all! UW Brazil Club President Sophia Winkler says “We are so happy about the event! It was great to see multiple groups work together to create an event that allowed people to learn about Brazilian culture.”
