International Day of Families Photo Contest
Photos by members of the FIUTS community on the theme of "Family."
The monthly FIUTS Photo Contest is an opportunity for members of the FIUTS community to share images from around the world. In honor of International Day of Families, which is celebrated around the world each year on May 15, the theme for this month was "Family." Some people in our community say that the "F" in FIUTS stands for family, so we think that this day is a great occasion to think about what family means to us.

Pets are family too! Elodie, a doctoral student from France, took this fun photo just a few weeks ago in downtown Seattle.

Wenjie, a dentistry student from China, calls this photo "Salt and Sugar" and says: "In the good old day, our family always use the pottery container to store the salt and sugar. It's a kind of transitional thing.
My grandma always told me, 'Life is not easy, we will have good times
and bad times, like the salt and sugar, you need the salt to cherish
the sweetness of sugar.'"

Luiza, from Brazil, says: "I moved to the US less than a year ago, but my immediate family didn't come with me, they let me go so I could strive for a higher education. In Seattle, I found these girls and even if we come from different backgrounds and represent different ethnicities, that didn't stop us from creating strong ties. These girls are more than friends to me, they are family, my sisters from other mothers."
