Face of FIUTS: Meet Bowen
Faces of FIUTS is a social media campaign that collects personal stories from individuals who are part of our work. This week, meet Bowen!
Where are you from? I moved to Illinois, USA, from China when I was in High school. Then I moved to Seattle for university. I lived in France for one quarter for a study abroad program.
What's your FIUTS story? I joined FIUTS as a facilitator during the pandemic. It was nice to start to meet new people again, even though it was only online. Then I started to facilitate events on small scales where I met students from all over the world. The experience was rewarding and I decided to get more involved with FIUTS by joining the student board. FIUTS has given me a platform to engage with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and it is very exciting to learn about the world from different perspectives.
How will you change the world? The world can be a better place with a bit more respect and understanding. I can do my part by facilitating events where people from different countries can interact with one another. The real-life interaction can potentially dissolve the distrust and misunderstanding that often come from unfamiliarity. By educating ourselves and others through engagement, we can develop more compassion towards others.
Bowen Wang is double majoring in International Studies and Psychology. He is a current member of the FIUTS Student Board, serving as co-chair of the Global Gala Committee and has been a FIUTS Facilitator since 2020.
