Summer Opportunities for the Seattle Community

This summer is full of engagement opportunities for individuals in the Seattle community looking to expand their global connections! Read below for upcoming day and homestay hosting options, events, and steps on how to get involved.

SUSI on Education and the Future of Work

We need at least 5 more hosts! Our beloved SUSI program is here again! Host students from Brazil, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Tunisia this summer! Students are between 18-25 years old.

NEW DATES: We will be holding two hosting days with no overnight homestay involved on June 25th & July 17th. Hosts will pick up students in the morning or early afternoon and bring them back to the UW campus in the evening.

Host a young leader from Africa in Seattle this July!

We are looking for volunteers to host Participants in the Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Enrichment Institute for FULL-DAY HOSTING (no overnight homestay involved) on July 31st.

Hosts will pick Participants up in the late morning and bring them back to their hotel in the evening.

Participants are from different African countries, are between 23-38 years old, and speak English. They are passionate about promoting innovation and positive change in their communities and are very excited to meet you!

Host a student or two from Korea for a two-night homestay from the evening of Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17.

Students are university-level and will be in Seattle for a total of three weeks studying English and learning about immigration, refugees, and cultural diversity in the United States.

It will be their first time in the U.S., so please help us welcome them!

The homestay weekend will end with a potluck dinner and celebration on Sunday, July 17 for students, hosts, and staff.

Host a student or two from Latvia for a three-night homestay, from the evening of August 13 to August 16.

Students are high school-level and will be in Seattle for one week and will participate in workshops, site visits, and volunteer service activities focused on entrepreneurship.

Hosts will pick up participants midday on Saturday, August 13, and drop them off on campus in the morning on Tuesday, August 16.

Roundtable Discussions on Education & the Future of Work

Date: Wednesday, June 22, 5:30 pm-7:30 pm 

Location: University of Washington campus, HUB 250

Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public. 

Meet participants in the Study of the U.S. Institute on Education and the Future of Work! Engage in conversations to learn about their successes, hopes, and challenges as they create initiatives to improve their home communities in Brazil, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Tunisia.

SUSI Networking Reception

Date: Tuesday, June 28, 5:30 pm-7:30 pm 

Location: Optimism Brewing Company

This event is free and open to the public. 

Meet student leaders from Brazil, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Tunisia! This is a rare opportunity to learn from inspiring young people who are impacting their communities on the other side of the world, and for you to share your own experiences and knowledge to encourage and inspire them. Professionals from a variety of fields will be attending.
