Meet Josef Cole, FIUTS Database Coordinator
My Journey to FIUTS:
I started at Eastern Washington University, where I did my undergraduate studies. Then, went on to the University of Washington, completing two master's degrees—one in International Studies at the Jackson School and the other in Public Administration at the Evans School. While studying at UW, I discovered FIUTS through a work-study opportunity. Their mission really aligned with my course of studies and it became a serendipitous find. Later on, I transitioned into a full-time role, witnessing FIUTS evolve into its next phase of existence.
Personal and Professional Growth:
Working at FIUTS has been a transformative experience for me, both personally and professionally. It was my first job after grad school and I also had a little one on the way. Balancing my professional and personal life became a valuable lesson, as I learned that the two lives I’m leading impact each other. The professionalism gained at FIUTS has influenced how I deal with challenges and responsibilities at home.
Memorable Moments and Events:
Among the many memorable moments I’ve experienced at FIUTS, a standout memory was during the block party and BBQ last year, which showcased FIUTS’ ability to expand its reach and foster a sense of community among international and local students alike.
Why should people get involved in FIUTS?
As someone who receives a lot of phone calls about the programs we organize, I encourage you to look up work on the website. FIUTS website as a valuable resource to find information about the organization. Additionally, joining the FIUTS Discord community can help students connect with others and stay updated on the organization's activities and opportunities.
Fun Facts about me:
People misspell my name more often than not. My name is also a compromise between my parents.
I also love video games, particularly sports games and RPGs, which have been a part of my life since childhood. However, becoming a father has really shifted my priorities and reduced the time I can spend on gaming. I also just want to put it out there that Blade is the best superhero movie of all time, despite not being a fan of the Marvel Universe. Prove me wrong!
Last words of advice for students:
“Take life as it comes, and roll with the punches! You never know what might happen and looking back, being open-minded has surprised me in many incredible ways!”
