Zhaneta Hovsepyan: Promoting Water Conservation in Armenia
Zhaneta Hovsepyan, a participant in the FIUTS Study of the U.S. Institute (SUSI) on Civic Engagement from our Summer 2023 cohort, recently shared an inspiring update about her work in her community in Armenia.
On August 19, Zhaneta organized the seminar "From Theory to Practice in Water Resource Management." This event focused on addressing Armenia's water scarcity issues and the algal bloom problem in Lake Sevan. Participants not only learned about these critical challenges but also took part in an interactive workshop, where they crafted hand-made water filtration equipment, bringing practical water conservation techniques to life.
Originally, Zhaneta’s project plan from the SUSI program was centered on a voter-awareness campaign. However, she felt a strong pull towards addressing environmental issues and adapted her plan accordingly. Reflecting on this shift, Zhaneta shared, "The SUSI program has been integral in implementing this project. The leadership skills I gained have shaped me into a more initiative-driven individual, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a real difference in my community."
We are incredibly proud of Zhaneta's achievements and her dedication to addressing this important issue. Her story is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of the SUSI program and the incredible potential of our alumni to create positive change.
