Faces of FIUTS: Let's Meet the Seattle Irish Dance Company
The Seattle Irish Dance Company was formed in 2012 by a group of former competitive Irish dancers. Our mission is to blend traditional Irish rhythms and movements with a more contemporary style, and to engage a wider audience with Irish music and dance. Most of our members have been dancing for well over a decade, and many have also competed at the regional, national and international level. Our dancers come from all over the US, and have a range of professions and interests beyond Irish dance. SIDC allows us to combine our skills and knowledge to work as a collaborative dance company that pushes the limits of our traditional art form.
SIDC is currently run by a leadership team that is passionate about challenging and empowering dancers to continue training and performing outside of the competitive world of Irish dancing. The Company continues to be one of the few opportunities that enables Irish dancers in the Pacific Northwest to perform professionally without sacrificing other full-time career ambitions. SIDC has performed with musicians from around the world - Gaelic Storm, The Chieftains, and Celtica Pipes Rock - to name just a few. The Company has appeared on the famous cabaret spiegeltent of Teatro Zinzanni, Seattle's Paramount Theatre, Climate Pledge Arena, danced at numerous musical festivals, and taken their work on several tours - both in the United States and internationally. SIDC dancers are as comfortable performing on the main stage of a theater as they are dancing in the pub or at a crowded music festival.
