Being a part of the Student Board is an opportunity for students to build their global network and enhance their leadership skills. Student Board members serve as members of the community Board of Trustees, and take part in discussions and initiatives that support FIUTS’ strategy, outreach, fundraising, and operations. Student Board members are undergraduate students, graduate students, or scholars from the U.S. and countries around the world who want to play a role in FIUTS programs into the future.

Election to the Student Board is a competitive process. Six elected Student Board members commit to serve a full academic year.

Lead by Example

  • Advocate for FIUTS’ values on campuses and in the community - diversity, curiosity, diplomacy, optimism, and community service;

  • Represent and promote FIUTS as an organization to the greater Seattle community;

  • Model thoughtful leadership practices and strategic thinking;

  • Build relationships with campus and community leaders through dialogue and partnership.

expectations

  • Read and uphold the FIUTS Code of Ethics

  • Commit to 4-6 hours per month of meetings and ongoing work

  • Attend training or other meetings throughout your year of service

  • Attend bi-monthly meetings of the FIUTS Board of Trustees

  • Serve on one committee alongside Trustees and staff

  • Participate as a FIUTS Facilitator at least once per quarter

FIUTS Student Board Application 2024/2025

The FIUTS Student Board is a unique and challenging leadership-development opportunity offers that offers students from any country studying in the Seattle area a chance to spend one academic year as an integral part of the FIUTS leadership team alongside our community Board of Trustees.

Serving on the Student Board is an academic year volunteer commitment (September - June), and it is a powerful way to build a global network, learn about nonprofit organizations, and gain leadership experience.

For the 24/25 year, FIUTS Student Board members will selected by the outgoing Student Board through a competitive election process.

Note: Before you apply, make sure you are prepared for the level of commitment involved:

  • Monthly evening meetings (2nd Monday of each month)

  • Two orientation sessions: June 2024 (online) and October 2024 (in person)

  • Participation in one Board of Trustee Committee (Board Development, Fundraising, Strategy, Finance)

  • Provide thoughtful consideration and input into FIUTS programs and initiatives; solicit feedback about programs from students and other stakeholders to inform your decisions

  • Attendance at FIUTS special events, including FIUTS CulturalFest and FIUTS Blue Marble Bash; additional events and public speaking opportunities throughout the year

  • Regular participation and leadership in FIUTS programs, including training and participation as a FIUTS Facilitator

  • A willingness to work hard, partner with the staff and Trustees, and have fun!

CulturalFest Co-Chair Applications Open Now! Deadline to apply extended until: May 13, 2024!

Apply for a leadership role in FIUTS CulturalFest 2025! As a CulturalFest Co-Chair, you will help to bring the largest FIUTS event of the year to the Pacific Northwest. Being a CulturalFest Co-Chair is an opportunity for students to gain event planning experience, build their global network, and enhance their leadership skills.

CulturalFest Co-Chairs will serve on a committee of students, staff, and community Trustees, and will lead two sub committees that will prepare for different elements of the event - the Performance Committee and the CulturalFest Expo Committee.

Election to the a CulturalFest Co-Chair role is a competitive process. Four students will be elected to serve in from September 2024-May 2025. CulturalFest is currently scheduled for April 19, 2025.


Performance Committee

  • Recruit potential performance groups from campuses across the region;

  • Coordinate and oversee the audition and selection process for performers;

  • Support the preparation of impactful performances that represent the talent and diversity of our global student community;

  • Prepare performance group marketing and communication materials;

  • Ensure a high-quality audience experience.

Expo Committee

  • Recruit 25-30 Expo Booth teams from campuses across the region;

  • Support teams in creating innovative and creative displays that represent their country or culture;

  • Connect groups to each other to expand their expo teams;

  • Coordinate small scale performances and/or lessons to engage the audience;

  • Ensure a high-quality educational experience for all attendees.

FIUTS CulturalFest Co-Chair Application 2024/2025

FIUTS CulturalFest is a community event that celebrates the diversity and talent that international connections bring to our region’s campuses. The two-part event includes an International Expo presented by student teams sharing elements of their home cultures plus a Performance Showcase featuring music and dance performances from around the world.

Four students will be elected to co-chair positions for 2024/2025. They will lead committees of student volunteers as they prepare for the annual event, scheduled for April 2025.
