From October 17 to 28, FIUTS welcomed the second cohort of students and mentors as part of the Youth Ambassador Program with Bolivia and Peru! This years’ participants traveled from South America to Seattle to study civic activism and multiculturalism through a partnership between the U.S. State Department, World Learning, and FIUTS.

On September 26, FIUTS had the distinct pleasure of honoring all the community members who opened their homes and hearts to incoming international students through the Homestay Program.

Through late August and the month of September, FIUTS welcomed over 2,600 international students to the UW campus.

FIUTS was honored recently to host 19 students from Brazil, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Tunisia as part of the first cohort of the Study of the U.S. Institute (SUSI) on Youth, Education, and Closing the Skills Gap. We are thrilled to share more about their program and the projects that they plan to deliver in their home communities now that their time in the U.S. has come to an end.

At the 2019 FIUTS Blue Marble Bash fundraiser on April 20, three inspiring students spoke about their experiences connecting with others through FIUTS programs. The following is the text of a speech by Madeline Kusnadi, a senior at the University of Washington from Indonesia studying Creative Writing. She is currently serving as the secretary and Marketing co-chair for the FIUTS Student Board, while also participating in various FIUTS events, including CulturalFest and the Pen Pal program.

The following is the text of the speech by Nadine Gibson, an 8th grader who has been a FIUTS Ambassador twice, serving as a local connection for students from the Caribbean this past summer and from Bolivia and Peru in the fall. She also participated in FIUTS’ summer youth program, the Seattle Language and Culture Institute (SLCI).
